Eucalyptus – alleviates cold symptoms
Eucalyptus oil is extracted from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree. This is a member of the myrtle family and can grow up to 60 metres tall. The Eucalyptus tree is widespread in Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and elsewhere.
Among other things, it has an anti-inflammatory effect, while its secretion-inducing, sputum-inducing and mucus-loosening effect in particular is used in the treatment of respiratory diseases. In the case of inflammation of the airways, the body reacts by releasing certain messenger substances, which, among other things, stimulate the production of secretions and constrict the airways. The main component of eucalyptus oil, eucalyptol, can prevent this messenger release.
